MANILA, Philippines — Madrid-based Acciona Energía has clinched a 20-year government power supply deal to deliver the full output of its 281-megawatt (MW) wind and solar portfolio in the Philippines.
The company emerged as a winning bidder in the fourth green energy auction (GEA-4), securing a long-term contract for its 101-MW Kalayaan 2 wind project in Laguna and 180-MW-peak Daanbantayan solar plant in Cebu.
Construction of the wind project is underway, while the development of the solar facility is scheduled to kick off before the year ends.
The supply contract awarded by the Department of Energy (DOE) provides long-term certainty for the power generation output of these projects while supporting the country’s energy transition push.
Under GEA-4, the DOE awarded 10,195.49 megawatts of capacity from ground-mounted solar, floating solar, onshore wind and integrated renewables with energy storage system components.
These projects are committed for delivery from 2026 through 2029.
The latest competitive bidding aligns with the government’s target to scale up the share of renewables to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040 from the current 22 percent.
Acciona Energía, a unit of Spanish multinational conglomerate Acciona S.A., operates in 24 countries and commands around 15.1 gigawatts of renewable power capacity.
In the Philippines, the company boasts a robust development pipeline of more than two GW. It recently restructured its partnerships in Southeast Asia to reinforce its foothold in strategic markets, including the Philippines and Thailand.
