MANILA, Philippines — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to visit the Philippines on March 3, the Palace announced on Friday, February 27.
In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that Lee and First Lady Kim Hee Keon will be in the country for two days, upon the invitation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
On the first day of their visit, Lee and the South Korean First Lady will be received by the Philippine president and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos at Malacañan Palace.
“Ito ang kauna-unahang pagbisita ni President Lee, at kauna-unahang state visit matapos maging epektibo ang Free Trade Agreement o FTA sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Republic of South Korea noong December 31, 2024,” Castro said.
(This is the very first visit made by President Lee, and the very first state visit after the Free Trade Agreement or the FTA between the Philippines and the Republic of South Korea became effective last December 31, 2024.)
The last visit made by a South Korean head of state to the Philippines was in 2024, when former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol visited before his historic removal from office.
Castro said that Lee’s visit to the Philippines comes in time for the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Seoul and Manila.
Marcos and Lee will have a bilateral meeting at the Palace, where they will discuss matters of cooperation in defense, maritime economic activity and other development fields. They will also tackle regional and international issues.
This is not the first time that the two leaders have met. Marcos and Lee had a bilateral meeting at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea in 2025.
