MANILA, Philippines — After Kris Aquino's heartfelt post on Sunday — where she talked about her recent breakup besides her current health struggles — Miguel Lorenzo Padlan, son of Aquino's ex-boyfriend physician Michale Padlan, took to social media to defend his father.

In a Facebook post shared on March 18, the young Padlan said he cannot remain silent while false stories are being spread about his "selfless and loving" father.

"The truth is simple yes, my father and Mama Kris separated because the spark between them was gone. However, that does not mean my father never loved her. He truly did," Miguel wrote.

He emphasized that his father and Aquino's relationship was real and that Michael deeply cared for her but surmised that love alone is not always enough.

"What pains me the most is that during their relationship, my siblings and I often felt neglected because my father was constantly traveling to America to be with Mama Kris," Miguel also revealed.

He added that his father faced periods in their relationship when he had "little to no money" and was losing patients at his clinic to be with Aquino. He maintained, however, that despite the emotional and financial challenges, his father never abandoned him and his three other siblings and did his best to remain present in their lives.

Miguel also denied accusations that his father entered the relationship for financial gains.

"Let me make one thing clear-my father never asked her for anything. He never begged for money or gifts. Whatever Mama Kris gave-whether financial support or presents, she did so out of her own kindness and generosity."

In the end Miguel said that they understood their father's decision to stay by Aquino's side, even if it meant leaving his kids for periods of time, and that his respect for Aquino remains.

"We understand — Mama Kris needed him, and we respected that. All we ask is that she does not spread stories that are untrue. My father's friends and patients know who he truly is, and they can attest to his character."

On March 16, Aquino wrote on her Instagram, "The doctor I loved left me because he wanted the freedom to travel, to break free from needing to care for and the reality of Kris Aquino who had multiplying autoimmune diseases with so few treatment options. Enough time has passed: he did not love me."

After Miguel's post, however, Aquino edited part of her original post to: "Time has passed: DR. M did not love me. He chose to leave when my autoimmune conditions were multiplying. In my defense the MD received the correct professional fees- even when we were a couple."

Aquino admitted to editing the post, offering this explanation: "I edited because there are two children whom I love; they will remain in my heart. I know because of this post I won't see the two of you grow up — please remember Mama Kris fulfilled her promises."

Aquino and Dr. Michael had been publicly linked since mid-2024, with Aquino previously crediting him as a key figure in her return to the Philippines and ongoing medical journey.
