MANILA, Philippines — The Sy family’s SM Prime Holdings Inc. is set to double the capacity of SMX Convention Center Manila by 2027 with the addition of a new world-class venue called SMXCITE.

Located within the SM Mall of Asia Complex, SMXCITE is set to become the country’s largest international exhibition venue under the brand portfolio of SM Hotels & Conventions Corp. (SMHCC), a unit of integrated property developer SM Prime.

Construction of SMXCITE started earlier this month and is targeted for completion in early 2027.

It will introduce over 18,000 square meters of leasable trade hall space to the SMX portfolio, effectively doubling the capacity of SMX Convention Center Manila.

Over 35,000 square meters of flexible exhibition and event space will then be offered by both venues within a single destination.

SM Prime said the completion of SMXCITE would further position the SM Mall of Asia Complex as the country’s premier hub for international exhibitions, trade fairs and large-scale business events.

“SMXCITE marks a pivotal step in our continued efforts to build future-ready venues that meet global standards,” SMHCC senior vice president for operations Walid Wafik said.

The world-class venue will feature five expansive exhibition halls designed to accommodate up to 803 standard 3×3-meter booths.

It will also have four fully equipped meeting rooms as well as two dedicated VIP lounges.

SM Prime said that the venue could host a little over 18,000 guests and engineered to support large-format events for both local and global audiences.

In line with the SM Group’s commitment to sustainability, SMXCITE will incorporate natural lighting, energy-efficient infrastructure and environmentally responsible design principles.

“With this new exhibition center, along with exciting projects on the horizon in Cebu and in Cabanatuan, we’re expanding our reach and reinforcing our commitment to elevate the Philippine MICE experience across the country,” Wafik said.

The addition of SMXCITE will expand SMX Convention Center’s total leasable footprint nationwide to nearly 60,000 square meters, spanning key cities including Manila, Taguig, Mandaluyong, Clark, Olongapo, Bacolod, Cebu and Davao.

SMHCC’s portfolio includes 10 hotels, composed of brands such as Conrad and Radisson Blu for the luxury segment, Taal Vista and Pico Sands for the leisure segment, Park Inn and Lanson Place for business as well as eight convention centers and trade halls under the SMX brand.
