SM Prime names former EEI exec as key officer

MANILA, Philippines — SM Prime Holdings Inc. of the Sy family has brought in a former EEI Corp. executive to serve as the company’s key officer.

SM Prime has appointed Cris Noel Torres, managing director and chief financial officer of EEI from 2020 to 2024, as an executive vice president.

Torres, a licensed mechanical engineer, also held various positions from 2011 to 2020 at First Pacific Group, a diversified conglomerate with investments primarily in the Philippines and Indonesia, where he gained a decade of experience in infrastructure, utilities, power generation and portfolio management.

Earlier in his career, he provided mergers and acquisitions, financing and strategic advisory services to corporations in the technology and communications sector for a US-based middle-market investment bank and advisory firm.

He has likewise held positions in private equity and in the consumer goods industry.

Torres has a Master’s degree in Business Administration, with a Major in Finance, from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Aside from Torres’ appointment, SM Prime’s board has also approved the amendment to the company’s articles of incorporation to increase the number of directors from eight to nine.

“The proposed increase in the number of directors is in recognition of the principles of board diversity and independence of business judgment adhered to by the company,” SM Prime said.

The proposed amendment will be presented to the company’s shareholders for approval during the 2026 annual stockholders’ meeting.
