MANILA, Philippines — Singer Jimmy Bondoc on Monday, January 19, filed a counter-affidavit on an inciting to sedition complaint filed against him.

In an interview with reporters at the Department of Justice, Bondoc said that he received the complaints on Dec. 26, 2025, which were filed against him by the Cybercrime Division of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).

According to Bondoc, who is also a lawyer, the case stemmed from his post on Facebook where he said, “Republic of Mindanao, coming soon,” which he posted on November 28.

He said that the PNP-CIDG filed complaints of inciting to sedition, inciting to rebellion, or insurrection.

Bondoc noted that despite his respect for everyone involved, the right to free speech remains a primary concern and maintained that his remark is not considered as “inciting to sedition.”

“While I respect all of the parties involved and I want to emphasize that I respect all the parties involved, trabaho lang iyan, pero hindi po pwede na lahat na lang ng maliliit na ungot ng taumbayan sa Facebook ay sasampahan ng reklamong ganito kasi ako po abogado po ako, may kakayahan naman ako na sagutin ito pero iniisip ko po kahit ako abogado naantala ako, naabala ako kahit maliit, kawawa po ang mga iba na nagbibigay lang ng saloobin,” Bondoc said.

(While I respect all of the parties involved—and I want to emphasize that I respect all the parties involved—this is just work. However, it shouldn't be the case that every small complaint or whim of the people on Facebook results in a lawsuit like this. I am a lawyer; I have the capability to answer this. But I'm thinking, even as a lawyer, I am being delayed and inconvenienced, even if only slightly. I feel for others who are simply expressing their thoughts.)

“For me, na-twist lang yung words ko to inciting to sedition,” he added.

(For me, my words were twisted to inciting to sedition.)

It could be recalled that Bondoc ran under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino and was endorsed by detained former president Rodrigo Duterte during the 2025 elections.
