MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA has raised Signal No. 1 over several areas in Luzon and the Visayas as Tropical Depression "Wilma" continues to move towards the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
As of 8 a.m. on Sunday, December 7, Wilma is estimated to be over the coastal waters of Almagro, Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center with gusts of up to 60 kph, moving west northwestward at 15 kph
Its “strong winds” also extend up to 150 kilometers from the center, according to PAGASA.
For areas under Signal No. 1, PAGASA warns that strong winds with minimal to minor impacts on life and property are expected within the next 36 hours:

Sea travel. A gale warning remains in effect over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, with sea conditions expected to reach up to very rough seas of up to 5.0 meters in some areas.
All sea travel remains risky for small vessels and larger tonnage, particularly in the warned areas.
Track forecast. Wilma is expected to continue its general west-southwestward track, traversing Southern Luzon and the Visayas today before exiting over the Sulu Sea.
PAGASA expects the system to remain a tropical depression throughout its land passage, with a strong possibility of weakening into a low-pressure area over the Sulu Sea due to the Northeast Monsoon.
