A shipping company has agreed to hire persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who have been released from the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
In a statement, the BuCor said a memorandum of agreement (MOU) on the hiring of released PDLs was signed last July 31 between the bureau of the Montenegro Shipping Lines, Inc. (MSLI).
It said the MOU is focused on development initiatives to assist freed PDLs by giving them second chances and reintegration through job opportunities.
“With this joint effort, SPPF and MSLI seek to promote growth, development, and rehabilitation for those reentering society,” it also said.
It added that the MOU seeks to break stereotypes and barriers to freed PDLs by enabling them, through employment, to promote their skills and abilities in maintenance and specialized ship work.
MSLI is a shipping company based in Batangas.
