Fresh from a career-best 25-point performance against the Ateneo Blue Eagles, star spiker Shevana Laput continues her stellar play as the La Salle Lady Spikers make quick work of the FEU Lady Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament
MANILA, Philippines – Make that four in a row for the La Salle Lady Spikers.
In a battle of two streaking teams, the Lady Spikers completed a dominant 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 sweep of the FEU Lady Tamaraws for their fourth straight victory in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, March 15.
Fresh from a career-best 25-point performance in La Salle’s previous win over the Ateneo Blue Eagles just last Wednesday, March 12, star spiker Shevana Laput continued her stellar play as she scored a game-high 22 points off 18 attacks, 3 blocks, and 1 serve.
Alleiah Malaluan and Angel Canino backstopped Laput with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Mikole Reyes tallied 20 excellent sets for the second consecutive game for the Lady Spikers.
“Despite the short turnover, our team just really wanted to work hard and wanted to end this round on a high note, which I think we have done so that we can continue this energy and effort going into Round 2,” said Laput as La Salle wrapped up the first round at solo third place with a 5-2 record.
With FEU in control early in the third set with a 9-4 lead, La Salle gained the upper hand off an attack by Canino for a 13-12 advantage.
It was a nip-and-tuck battle the rest of the third, and with the score knotted at 19-all, the Lady Spikers once again turned on the jets and finished the set on a 6-3 run, capped by a 1-2 play from Mikole Reyes to secure the win.
No Lady Tamaraw finished in double-digit scoring as Faida Bakanke paced the team with 9 points.
FEU saw its three-game winning streak halted, dropping to a 4-3 card. – Rappler.com
