MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has terminated the search and retrieval operation for the recreational vessel M/BCA Amejara, which went missing in the waters off Davao region last month.
In a post on social media, the PCG-District Southeastern Mindanao said the operation was terminated on Wednesday with only one survivor, six casualties and nine people still missing.
The survivor, crewmember Christopher Bulig, was rescued in the waters off Sarangani Island on Jan. 20.
The Amejara was headed for Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental when it went missing on Jan. 19.
The PCG expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, saying all available resources have been tapped for the month-long operation in the hope of finding the vessel and the missing passengers.
The PCG said it even asked the Indonesian government to assist the PCG team in the search mission.
The PCG gave assurance that it would continue to receive verified information, credible reports and recovered materials possibly related to the Amejara.
