'The SC ordered Atty. Sia to show cause within a non-extendible period of 10 days from notice why no disciplinary action should be taken against him,' the High Court says
MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court said on Tuesday, April 8, that it has issued a show cause order to Pasig congressional bet Ian Sia over his sexist remark about single mothers during a campaign rally.
“The SC ordered Atty. Sia to show cause within a non-extendible period of 10 days from notice why no disciplinary action should be taken against him,” the High Court said in a statement.
The High Court said lawyers Allen Liberato-Espino and Michelle Laserna-Adricula filed a complaint against Sia, who is a lawyer, following his off-color “joke” about single mothers that he delivered during a campaign event.
The SC also said that on Monday, April 7, the GABRIELA National Alliance of Filipino Women wrote the High Court asking that it “investigate the same incident and impose the appropriate disciplinary action on Atty. Sia.”
The SC has jurisdiction over Sia because he’s a lawyer and has been admitted to the Philippine Bar. As such, he should abide by the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).
Sia is already facing two show orders from the Commission on Elections: one for his lewd remark about single mothers, and another for body shaming his female former staff member in a later campaign event. Both instances were caught on video. – Rappler.com
