MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte yesterday said moves to file a new impeachment case against her are “all about money.”

Civil society groups earlier threatened to file a new complaint against her after the one-year ban expires in February.

“As expected, because they are the ones who always say they will file impeachment complaints. We already know that will happen. It will be just like in the past, where members of the House of Representatives signed the impeachment as fundraising. It’s all about the money,” Duterte said in an interview in The Hague, Netherlands.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan chairman Teddy Casiño said that filing a new impeachment complaint will depend on the Supreme Court’s ruling on their appeal after it declared the earlier Articles of Impeachment unconstitutional, saying that it violates the one-year rule under the Constitution, as well as Duterte’s right to due process.

Three impeachment complaints were filed by private citizens and groups against Duterte in late 2024, but they were never tackled in the plenary.

Instead, the House, with 215 votes, approved a fourth impeachment complaint on Feb. 5, 2025, which was followed by the transmittal of the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.

Duterte, meanwhile, did not comment on the impeachment complaint filed against Marcos.

“Let’s wait for the next few days to see if I have a reaction,” she said.
