MANILA, Philippines — Sangley Point, Cavite sizzled at 46 degrees Celsius on Friday, while 30 other areas experienced a “danger” heat index as warm and humid weather continues to prevail in the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The state weather bureau said that other areas with dangerous heat index include Aparri, Cagayan; Tayabas, Quezon; Catarman, Northern Samar and Coron, Palawan.

At 45 degrees Celsius are Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Iba, Zambales; Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Tanauan, Batangas; Iloilo City, Iloilo and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte at 44 degrees Celsius.

In Metro Manila, the heat index reached 43 degrees Celsius, which was also recorded in Batac, Ilocos Norte; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Camiling, Tarlac; Infanta and Alabat, Quezon; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Cuyo, Palawan and Roxas City, Capiz.

PAGASA weather division chief Juanito Galang said the frontal system and the easterlies will be the dominant weather systems affecting the country on election day tomorrow.

“Batanes, Apayao and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Frontal System. Ilocos Norte, Isabela and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region will be partly cloudy in the morning, becoming cloudy with scattered rains and thunderstorms for the rest of the day,” Galang said.

Meanwhile, the easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies over Metro Manila and the rest of the country, with the possibility of isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, which may result in brief and sudden heavy downpours mostly in the afternoon or evening.

“Warm and humid conditions will continue across most parts of the country. The public is advised to take precautionary measures against heat-related illnesses such as fatigue, heat cramps and heat exhaustion. When going to polling precincts, it is recommended to bring water to stay hydrated, use an umbrella for shade, take breaks in covered areas and wear light-colored clothing,” Galang said.
