MANILA, Philippines — The San Juan city government will again limit water-dousing activities during the annual Wattah! Wattah! Festival on June 24 to a designated area along Pinaglabanan Street.

Mayor Francis Zamora said only festival participants inside the designated “basaan zone” between N. Domingo and P. Guevarra streets will be allowed to engage in the traditional water-splashing activity from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The city will enforce its city ordinance, which prohibits water dousing outside the designated area to prevent inconvenience to residents, workers, students and motorists.

Under the ordinance, which was first implemented in 2025, the use of dirty or hazardous water, water bombs and other dangerous objects is prohibited.

Forced opening of vehicles, throwing of bottles or ice, spraying water inside vehicles and the use of high-pressure water sprayers, except by authorized fire trucks, are also banned.

A liquor ban will be enforced from midnight until 2 p.m. on June 24.

Violators may face fines of up to P5,000 and imprisonment of up to 10 days.
