It was supposed to be an exciting family trip for the family of Sam Pinto and Anthony Semerad in Japan. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit of a struggle, especially after the latter caught dengue.

The former Bubble Gang actress has been sharing their vacation in the Land of the Rising Sun on her social media pages. Until one day, Anthony felt ill and had to be brought to a hospital. Initial findings showed that the PBA star tested negative for COVID-19 and influenza. But after more tests, it was confirmed that he contracted dengue and his platelets were “extremely low.”

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dengue is a viral infection that spreads from mosquitoes to people. It is more common in tropical and subtropical climates. Most people who get dengue will not have symptoms. But for those who do, the most common symptoms are high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash.

On Instagram Story, Sam gave an update about Anthony's condition: "They performed a blood test and started IV treatment, revealing that his white blood cells and platelets were extremely low. The doctors here were unsure of the diagnosis, so they sent his results to his team doctor, who confirmed it was Dengue Fever.”

She continued, "They provided medication for his headache and nausea, but instructed us to return to the hotel and allow him to rest.

"We focused on keeping him hydrated, encouraged him to eat, and ensured he got plenty of rest. What a day it's been."

In her latest post on Instagram Story today, February 12, Sam revealed that they were extending their stay in Japan because it's still too dangerous for Anthony to fly back to Manila.

Pinto explained, “Suppose to fly back to Manila tomorrow. But platelets are still very low and scary to fly, might cause internal bleeding. Extending our stay until he's better.”
