Semerad was given medication for headaches and nausea but was later sent back to the hotel to rest.

Pinto clarified that her husband contracted dengue in Manila.

According to the World Health Organization, dengue fever occurs after an incubation period of four to 10 days after the bite of the infected mosquito.

"His immune system was already low from playing games. Flying, traveling, and the shift from hot to cold weather just made things worse," she added.

As of writing Semerad is still recovering in Japan with Pinto and their young daughter.
