Mr. HO Kai Ming, JP, Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare of the HKSAR Government, stated: "We are facing both internal and external challenges: a complex and evolving economy, an aging population, and growing mental health concerns. These issues are testing our wisdom and adaptability. How can we allocate and match resources more precisely with limited means? How can we ensure the accessibility of social welfare amid constantly shifting service demands? Addressing these questions requires thoughtful consideration, collective efforts, and innovative solutions. We encourage everyone to explore future possibilities alongside the HKSAR government to 'better serve our people and develop Hong Kong.'"
The two-day event, taking place from May 20-21, features 34 thematic sessions and workshops with over 140 speakers from France, Japan, Singapore, the United Nations Development Programme, mainland China, and local guests discussing sustainable social development topics and solutions. This year's focal topics include artificial intelligence (AI) and social development, youth mental health, business-social partnerships, the silver economy, racial diversity, and talent development. More than 160 social welfare organizations, social enterprises, and impact-driven companies participate in the expo to showcase innovative solutions.
Notable scholars, including Prof. Tianguang Meng from the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and AI ethics and digital interactions expert Dr. Hubert Etienne from France, deliver keynote speeches today, addressing opportunities and challenges in social development during the digital and AI era. A representative from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is also participating in the summit, with climate finance and private sector specialist Mr. Karanraj Chaudri sharing international experiences in the "Caring Company Scheme" session, delving into how businesses can create social impact by mobilising capital to achieve SDGs, fostering profound community advancement while ensuring business sustainability
