Rufa Mae Quinto has given an update on her relationship with her husband, Trevor Magallanes: They are legally married but they have decided to move on.

On Friday’s “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Rufa said they are OK and they both respect each other.

“Move on muna, pero we respect each other. Kasi nga masyado nang ano eh—’di ba para mag-clarity na rin lahat,” Rufa said.

However, the Kapuso star admitted there are still days when she feels sad. “Siyempre mahal ko, asawa ko ‘yun eh, ‘di ba? Hanggang ngayon naman asawa ko pa rin naman siya eh. Kaya lang, ayaw na rin niya, so ayaw ko na rin at ginagalang ko ‘yun kasi mas kadiri naman kung ayoko pang tumigil, ‘di ba?” she said.

According to Rufa, she and Trevor tried to fight for their marriage.

“Kaya lang siguro gusto lang namin ng magkaiba—maraming dahilan na hindi na rin namin alam basta mas masaya kami siguro nang ganito,” she said.

Despite their separation, Rufa ensures their daughter, Athena, understands her connection to her father.

“Sinasabi ko sa kaniya na your dad will always be your dad kahit anong mangyari. Ta’s kinakausap ko na lang siya. Siyempre may pinagdaanan din si Athena, na-depress din siya and everything, pero lagi kong sinasabi na tomorrow is another day,” Rufa said.

She would tell Athena, “Tatay mo ‘yan, hindi naman mapapalitan, ‘di ba? ‘Yan ang daddy mo habambuhay. Kaya kung hindi siya ngayon available or gusto niyang mag-rest or away, space, eh OK ‘yun. Wait lang tayo.”

Rufa recalled that her falling out with Trevor happened last year, but she chose to remain quiet out of concern for her daughter.

“Iniisip ko ‘yung anak ko na papaano ‘yun baka mag-adjust, masaktan,” she said.

Rufa and Trevor got married in 2016. A year later, they welcomed their daughter Athena.

In January, Rufa said that she and Trevor were going through a rough patch and she had no plans to file for divorce. — Carby Basina/LA, GMA Integrated News
