Filipino actor and director Ricky Davao, born Frederick Charles Caballes Davao, passed away on Thursday, May 1, at the age of 63.
Viva Entertainment shared the heartbreaking news through its official social media channels.
In 2024, it was reported that Davao had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, though the exact nature of his condition was never publicly disclosed.
A beloved figure in the Philippine entertainment industry, Davao left behind a legacy of versatile performances in television, film, and theater. He was last seen on stage in the musical show Silver Lining Redux, where his presence was warmly received by fans and peers alike. He was also featured in the 2025 films Sosyal Climbers and Sinagtala.
He was formerly married to actress Jackie Lou Blanco, and they shared three children: Kenneth, Arabella, and Rikki Mae. He was also the younger brother of Bing Davao and the son of the late veteran actor Charlie Davao, continuing a family legacy in the performing arts.
In the span of his career, he showcased his versatility in various roles across film and television. Notable performances include his roles in Saranggola (1999), Minsan May Isang Puso (2002), and Fuccbois (2019).
Ricky was also active in theater, with performances in productions such as Insiang, Speaking in Tongues, and DOM: Dirty Old Musical.
He also made his mark as a television director, debuting with the series Grazilda in 2010.
Ricky was a recipient of FAMAS AWARDS Best Supporting Actor for Fuccbois (2020) and Iadya Mo Kami (2017), Gawad Urian Awards Best Actor for Saranggola (2000) and Best Supporting Actor for Ipaglaban Mo: The Movie (1996). ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards: Best Supporting Actor for Dayang Asu (2017), Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival: Best Supporting Actor for Fuccbois (2019), among many other awards.
Ricky Davao's contributions to Philippine entertainment will be remembered with deep admiration and gratitude.
