MANILA, Philippines — Police are investigating a retired general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines seen in a viral video brandishing a gun during a confrontation with a motorist in Mandaluyong.
Col. Reynan Patam, Mandaluyong police chief, said the incident occurred along a street in Barangay Addition Hills on June 17.
“We recognize the public’s concern regarding this incident, particularly regarding the display of a firearm in public or in a residential area. The Mandaluyong City police station views this matter with the highest level of urgency and concern,” Patam said in a statement yesterday.
In the video, the unnamed officer was seen approaching the motorist while hurling profanities and carrying a handgun.
“He was asking the driver of a vehicle blocking his garage to move so that he could enter. From there, they had a slight misunderstanding,” Patam told ABS-CBN.
Patam said police have no record of the incident because the motorist did not file a complaint against the former AFP officer.
