MANILA, Philippines — Rescued dog Hima is now a superstar thanks to his appearance in “Gohan,” the film that is sweeping the Thai box office.
The tearjerker about a stray dog searching for love and the meaning of home is currently ranked as the No. 1 movie in Thailand.
According to Thailand Box-Office and Entertainment, the first weekend of “Gohan” reached over 30 million baht (P56 million) while “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” reached 16.41 million baht (P30 million).
"Gohan" is directed by Chaynapo Boonprakop, Nattawut Poonpiriya, and Atta Hemwadee, who together crafted a feel-good movie that impressed and moved viewers to tears nationwide.
According to The Adorable Puppy Cafe, (a community dedicated to finding homes for rescued dogs who have 850 dogs, 36 cats, a couple of pigs, a hedgehog and some birds as of this moment), Hima was also a rescued dog found at a local food market in Chiang Mai. The gentle old boy was exhausted and unwell when he was discovered. Despite his rough start, his rescue revealed a dog who was simply happy to finally be loved. His resilient spirit became an inspiration for the movie.
This movie, somehow, captured those thoughts, worries, feelings and in a way answered so many questions for the viewers that every dog has a story to tell.
Produced by Pioneer Films, "Gohan" will start screening on April 15 exclusively at SM Cinemas.
