MANILA, Philippines — Portions of the EDSA busway that were being repaired over the holidays have now been reopened, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced.

The innermost lanes of EDSA, from Orense in Makati to Taft Avenue in Pasay on the southbound lane and from Magallanes Avenue to Orense in Makati on the northbound lane, were reopened to motorists on Friday afternoon.

DPWH personnel were seen placing white pavement markings on newly-asphalted roads, according to photos shared by the agency on its Facebook page.

Since being repaired, the Department of Transportation that manages the EDSA busway has “observed faster speed and smoother journeys” for bus riders, said Undersecretary Mark Steven Pastor.

The DPWH reminded motorists that the EDSA rehabilitation program would continue starting Jan. 5, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to avoid causing slow-moving traffic during rush hour, according to the agency.

The repairs, which consist of road reblocking and asphalt overlay, will cover parts of EDSA, from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay to Orense in Makati. It is expected to last until April or May for the first phase.

The entire project – composed of two phases – would take eight months.

Stone mastic asphalt applied to airport runways and expressways would be used for the EDSA rehabilitation project.
