Red rainfall warning up over Metro Manila, other areas in Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon were placed under a red rainfall warning on Saturday, August 29, as the southwest monsoon or habagat continued to bring heavy rains and threaten flooding in some areas.

In its 11 a.m. advisory, state weather bureau PAGASA said serious flooding is expected in flood-prone areas under the red warning level.

The following areas are under the red warning level:

• Zambales
• Bataan
• Pampanga
• Bulacan
• Metro Manila
• Tarlac: Camiling, San Clemente, Mayantoc, Santa Ignacia, San Jose, Capas and Bamban
• Batangas: Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy and Balayan
• Cavite: Magallanes, Maragondon, Ternate, Bacoor, Cavite City, Imus, Kawit, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza and General Trias
• Rizal: San Mateo, Cainta, Taytay, Rodriguez, Antipolo, Morong, Teresa, Angono, Binangonan and Cardona

PAGASA said serious flooding is expected in flood-prone areas under the red warning level.

Meanwhile, flooding is threatening areas under the orange warning level, including:

• Laguna
• Tarlac: Concepcion, Anao, Tarlac City, Gerona, La Paz, Paniqui, Pura, Ramos, San Manuel, Victoria and Moncada
• Batangas: Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Batangas City, Bauan, Calaca, Tanauan, Cuenca, Ibaan, Laurel, Lemery, Lipa, Lobo, Mabini, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, San Jose, San Luis, San Nicolas, San Pascual, Santa Teresita, Santo Tomas, Taal, Talisay, Tingloy and Taysan
• Cavite: Alfonso, Amadeo, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Indang, Mendez, Silang, Tagaytay, Trece Martires, Carmona, Dasmariñas and General Mariano Alvarez
• Rizal: Tanay, Baras, Jala-Jala and Pililla

Flooding is also possible in flood-prone areas under the yellow warning level, including:

• Nueva Ecija
• Quezon: Sariaya, Candelaria, Dolores, San Antonio, Tiaong, Lucban, Tayabas, Lucena, General Nakar, Infanta, Real, Mauban, Sampaloc and Pagbilao
• Batangas: Rosario, San Juan and Padre Garcia

Meanwhile, light to moderate rains with occasional heavy rains are affecting parts of Quezon, which may persist within the next three hours.

The affected areas in Quezon are Agdangan, Alabat, Atimonan, Buenavista, Burdeos, Calauag, Catanauan, General Luna, Guinayangan, Gumaca, Jomalig, Lopez, Macalelon, Mulanay, Padre Burgos, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Perez, Pitogo, Plaridel, Polillo, Quezon, San Andres, San Francisco, San Narciso, Tagkawayan and Unisan.

Residents in affected and flood-prone areas are advised to remain alert for possible flooding and monitor updates from PAGASA and local authorities.
