There’s a new camera-focused smartphone in town and that’s none other than the realme 14 Pro+ 5G.
This latest mid-range contender from realme keeps everything that worked well from its predecessor, while introducing a host of welcome upgrades here and there, too. We’re talking about a more powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, a tougher build, a better display, and a larger 6000mAh battery.
Looking at the spec sheet alone, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G could easily become one of the top contenders in its class. But the real question is, what makes it stand out in the crowded mid-range segment?
Stick around as we take a rundown of the best features the realme 14 Pro+ 5G has in store. Let’s dive in!
Impressive camera performance
Right off the bat, the cameras on this thing are top-notch. The realme 14 Pro+ 5G has triple Sony cameras: a 50-megapixel main shooter with OIS, another 50-megapixel sensor for telephoto, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens.
We’ve had the phone for a while, and not only did we take some sample shots during our usual routine, but we also had the chance to take it outdoors.
Not gonna lie, the images we captured on the realme 14 Pro+ 5G are surprisingly good for a mid-range device — so much so that we almost feel like we’re using a flagship phone.
The image quality has nice, vivid colors, great detail, and an impressive dynamic range, handling almost every shooting scenario with ease. Night shots are decent as well, and the phone’s triple flash system was neat, that added a bit of lighting to our portraits captured in low-light.
Notably, you can adjust the flash temperature from cold to warm depending on what you are shooting.
Video capture is also great. The phone can record up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). Details are sharp and the dynamic range seems decent, too. Like mentioned earlier, the main 50MP shooter supports OIS, allowing for stable footage.
During our trip to Daraitan, Rizal, while the weather was overcast, that didn’t stop the realme 14 Pro+ 5G from capturing Instagram-worthy shots, ready to post online with no further tweaks needed.
But if you ever need to edit your photos, this is where the phone’s built-in AI tools come in handy.
There’s, of course, the AI Eraser, which helps you clean up the clutter in your image. And if you want to enhance the sharpness of your image, AI Ultra Clarity 2.0 is available to do just that.
Another couple of nifty features are the AI Snap mode, designed to help you capture fast-moving subjects with ease, and the Underwater mode, which, as you might have guessed, is tailored for underwater photography.
When shooting in Underwater mode, the phone automatically adjusts image settings to enhance colors and details that would typically be muted underwater.
This mode is made possible thanks to the phone’s enhanced water resistance, which we’ll talk about next.
Durable build
The realme 14 Pro+ 5G gets an IP69 rating for full protection against dust-tight particles and water submersion. This is surely a nice upgrade from last year’s IP65 rating which only allows for protection against water jets.
Piece of advice though, there’s no need to literally test the waters to check whether the phone would survive submersion under water. Such ingress protection is there to minimize the risk of damage from the elements.
So, if you accidentally dropped the phone in the pool, for example, your mind can be at ease knowing that the phone would easily survive. (No need for the rice trick!)
Adding to phone’s high-level water resistance is a military-grade shock resistance, serving as an added layer of protection against accidental drops. I would still recommend slapping a case on it though just to be extra careful.
Thankfully, included in the box is a black jelly case, so you can make use of that if you’d like.
Unique design
The only trade-off of attaching a protective case is that you won’t be able to flaunt the phone’s stylish design.
Our unit came in the Pearl White colorway, and as you can see, it features a unique ocean wave pattern, splashed with gold accent and mostly white. There’s the circular camera island combined with a gold outline, elevating its looks and giving it a sense of premium.
We definitely appreciate the symmetry that’s going on in here, but just one question, realme… How to unsee the camera lenses looking like a fidget spinner?
Anyways, what’s interesting about the phone’s back panel is the ability to change some of its colors from white to blue.
We’ve seen similar technologies that use sunlight or UV rays to change a housing’s color, but the realme 14 Pro+ 5G harnesses cold temperature to be able to change its colors. So, if you have an AC set to at least 16 degrees Celsius, you’ll notice the phone begins to splash some blue texture in there blended with gold and white colors.
The phone is also comfortable to hold thanks to its sleek, curved edges, and that applies to the display as well.
Enjoyable viewing experience
The realme 14 Pro+ 5G sports a 6.83-inch quad-curved OLED display with a crisp 1.5K screen resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It has super thin display bezels and kudos to realme for making it uniform on all sides.
If you ever find yourself out and about with the sun’s still high up, the screen remains visible as it’s capable of up to 1500 nits of local peak brightness.
With the phone’s dual stereo speakers, watching content on this phone is a bliss. It has a good audio output with overall nice detail and loudness. That is complemented by the vivid colors and deep blacks, as expected from its OLED panel.
The phone is also Widevine L1 certified, meaning you’ll be sure to enjoy watching HD content on Netflix among others.
Large battery, long-lasting
Last but definitely not the least key feature is the phone’s larger than usual 6000mAh battery.
During our use, the phone lasted for more than a day with regular use. This highlights the Snapdragon chipset’s efficiency, and it looks like the larger capacity makes quite a difference here.
It still depends on the user’s end though. So, if you’re the type of a user who might be doom-scrolling a lot on your socials, watching content on YouTube, taking casual snaps, and a little bit of gaming on the side, you can expect the realme 14 Pro+ 5G to deliver a solid battery life.
And if you ever need to recharge, it only takes about an hour or so to fill up the phone to 100% using the 80W SuperVOOC charger. Fortunately, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G comes bundled with its own charging brick and cable unlike other phone makers out there.
Rounding up the best features of realme 14 Pro+ 5G
The realme 14 Pro+ 5G is not just your typical mid-range phone — it’s a straight-up beast that punches way above its weight. From the solid cameras to the long-lasting battery and smooth display, it’s got a ton of features that make it feel like a flagship without the crazy price tag.
First off, the camera setup is lit. The triple Sony sensors capture stunning photos that can easily hang with phones that cost twice as much. Whether you’re snapping pics in bright sunlight or capturing those low-light vibes at night, this phone delivers clear and sharp shots.
The fact that this phone can shoot 4K video at 30fps with OIS is a huge bonus too, delivering crisp and stable footage. Whether you’re vlogging, capturing memories, or just recording content, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G has got you covered.
Plus, it’s got cool AI features like AI Eraser to clean up your pics and AI Ultra Clarity 2.0 to make them even sharper. And don’t forget the Underwater mode for those beach or poolside days — you know it’s gonna be handful for those moments.
The advanced water and shock resistance make sure that the phone can withstand the occasional mishap, while the unique design — complete with color-changing back panel and a premium feel — adds a touch of luxury that’s rare for a phone in its class.
The display? Pretty good. With a 6.83-inch OLED screen and a 120Hz refresh rate, everything from doom-scrolling through socials to watching Netflix, it looks vibrant and smooth. And with stereo speakers to back it up, watching content on this phone is a satisying experience.
Battery-wise, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G is packing a massive 6000mAh battery, which, combined with the energy-efficient Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, ensures it’ll last you well into the next day with regular use.
Final thoughts
Now, let’s wrap this up. In an already crowded mid-range market, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G manages to carve out its own niche by combining flagship-level features with an accessible price tag. Phones with these kinds of specs, especially in the camera and display departments, are typically reserved for flagship models, but realme has managed to pack them all into a mid-range package.
It’s clear that realme has focused on offering a premium experience in every aspect, from the camera and display to the overall design and build quality — offering so much value for a fraction of the price as other flagships.
For anyone looking for a solid device that delivers both performance and style without breaking the bank, the realme 14 Pro+ 5G is an easy recommendation. It’s a phone that proves you don’t need to spend a fortune to enjoy a top-tier, flagship experience.
