MANILA, Philippines — Robbery caused the death of retired policeman George Capistrano on Sunday, initial investigation by the Manila Police District showed.
The MPD said Capistrano, a former aide of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, was not specifically targeted during the incident.
“This is random. They were just looking for a victim in Manila,” said Maj. Philipp Ines, MPD spokesman.
“When they came here, they happened to come across our retired police officer who had valuables on him,” Ines added.
Investigators said the suspects robbed Capistrano of a bracelet, a ring and his gun.
The gunman’s accomplice, identified only as Biboy, said they sold the stolen valuables in Pampanga.
“After the sale, I gave him the P200,000 and he gave me P100,000,” Biboy said.
Police have filed robbery and homicide charges against Biboy and Albert Magdaraog, who goes by the alias Flow G.
Authorities are still searching for Magdaraog, who has two standing arrest warrants for the same crime committed in Baguio in 2024 and 2025.
