MANILA, Philippines — Independence Day celebrations could be dampened by rains as a low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon continue to affect parts of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.
The low-pressure area east of Baler, Aurora could strengthen into a tropical cyclone, the state weather bureau noted.
Occidental Mindoro, Zambales and Bataan are experiencing monsoon rains.
Heavy rains and possible landslides are anticipated in Ilocos, Abra, Benguet, Central Luzon and Mimaropa.
Intermittent rains are expected in Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Cavite, Batangas, Romblon, Palawan, Bicol, Western and Eastern Visayas and parts of Mindanao.
Outside the Philippine area of responsibility, Tropical Storm Wutip remains active but distant.
Weather conditions are expected to gradually improve by weekend in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
