Manila Electric Co.’s (Meralco) Radius Telecoms Inc. has launched a new distributed denial of service (DDoS) scrubbing center in Hong Kong to protect enterprise customers from website flooding.

In a statement, Radius said it partnered with Nexusguard, a Singapore-based DDoS cybersecurity solution provider, and Total Information Management (TIM) to enhance its ability to mitigate malicious traffic on its network.

The move aims to bolster its B2B direct internet access service against the increasing threat of DDoS attacks, Redius said.

Nexusguard’s 2024 Autumn Report indicated a significant rise in DDoS attack severity globally, with the average attack size increasing by 135 percent and durations increasing by 163 percent year-on-year. The report emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to combat this trend.

Al Solis, OIC-Chief Operating Officer of Radius, said this investment enables real-time blocking of DDoS attacks, preserving target latency in traffic routing and ensuring high reliability and low-latency commitment to enterprise customers.

He added that while Radius is strengthening its network-layer cybersecurity, enterprise customers should also implement their own robust security protocols due to the anticipated increase and sophistication of cyberattacks.

Juniman Kasman, Chief Technology Officer at Nexusguard, said the collaboration highlights the importance of joint efforts to counter DDoS threats.

He noted that combining their expertise with Radius’ network infrastructure will provide enterprises with reliable protection for their customers and operations.

Radius provides connectivity and security solutions to major corporations in the Philippines, utilizing its 100% pure fiber network across key business districts in Mega Manila, economic zones in Central Luzon, Clark, and Cebu.
