BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A community radio blocktimer was shot dead by a lone assailant in La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Friday.
Julio Calo of the 88.3 DNN News FM was declared dead on arrival at the La Castellana Rural Health Unit.
Calo died from a gunshot to the head, probers said.
Capt. Jose Michael Muñez, deputy chief of the La Castellana police, said the killing occurred in front of the victim’s property in Barangay Robles.
Muñez said the gunman was in a white sport utility vehicle that pulled over in front of the victim’s house.
He said Calo was arrested and detained in 2018 for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
Calo was released from jail after pleading guilty to the offense, he added.
Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
