MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has approved a new preference rating system for qualified overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) taking the civil service examination,  beginning with the Aug. 9 test schedule.

Under CSC Resolution No. 2600596 dated April 30, qualified OFWs may receive additional points in the civil service exam based on their length of foreign employment and work performance.

The commission said applicants must first obtain a general rating of not lower than 70 to qualify for the Overseas Filipino Workers–Preference Rating, subject to CSC guidelines.

The CSC said eligible applicants include those who have been contracted for overseas employment, but have yet to leave the Philippines.

To qualify, applicants must have rendered an aggregate of at least five years of overseas employment from Jan. 1, 2000 up to the date of application, whether continuous or intermittent.

They must also have taken the scheduled CSE beginning Aug. 9 and thereafter, through pen-and-paper or other testing modes.

“This initiative recognizes the professionalism, dedication and sacrifices of our OFWs,” the CSC said.
