According to Phivolcs, the quake struck at 9:36 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located about 49 km south of San Esteban town in Ilocos Sur. The earthquake was tectonic in origin.

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit various towns in Ilocos Sur, Bontoc in Mountain Province and several La Union towns yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
According to Phivolcs, the quake struck at 9:36 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located about 49 km south of San Esteban town in Ilocos Sur. The earthquake was tectonic in origin.
Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Vigan while Intensity II was felt in Candon City in Ilocos Sur, Santol town in La Union and Bontoc town in Mountain Province.
Intensity I was recorded in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur and Aringay, La Union.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
