MANILA, Philippines — Drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) may benefit from fuel discounts of up to P5 per liter, the Department of Energy announced yesterday.

The DOE said Petron, Shell, Caltex and Cleanfuel are offering discounts for PUVs and TNVS, providing relief amid high fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East.

Petron is providing fuel discount of up to P3 per liter for PUVs. Shell is offering savings of P1 to P5 per liter for PUVs and P2 to P3 per liter for TNVS.

Caltex is providing discounts of P2.50 on motor gas, P1.50 on diesel and P10 on lubricant products.

Starting tomorrow, Cleanfuel will offer discounts of P1 per liter on diesel and P2 per liter on gasoline.

These fuel discounts were based on the oil firms’ submitted report as of June 25, the DOE said.

Fuel prices increased on a staggered basis last week, with gasoline, diesel and kerosene going up by P3.50, P5.20 and P4.80 per liter, respectively.

The latest price adjustments marked the sixth increase for gasoline, the fourth for diesel and the third for kerosene.

On a year-to-date basis, gasoline, diesel and kerosene prices have climbed by P10.40, P11.85 and P4.05 per liter, respectively.

This week, however, the DOE estimates potential per-liter price cuts of P1 to P1.40 for gasoline, P1.60 to P2.10 for diesel and P2 to P2.20 for kerosene.

In Metro Manila, the average pump price of gasoline, diesel and kerosene stands at P56.15, P58.30 and P72.62 per liter, respectively.
