PRO-6 arrests 461 in weeklong ops

ILOILO CITY — The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) apprehended 461 law violators during a weeklong simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operation known as "Birada Semana."

PRO-6 spokesman Lt. Col. Arnel Solis said the operations, conducted from Jan. 6-12, involved 375 police activities across Western Visayas.

The Birada Semana targeted various offenses, including illegal drugs, illegal gambling, loose firearms and tracking down wanted persons.

In the campaign against illegal drugs, a total of 113 individuals were arrested, comprising 14 high-value targets and 99 street-level violators.

The PRO-6 also apprehended 231 fugitives, including 32 most-wanted persons and 199 others with standing warrants of arrest.

In illegal gambling operations, 99 suspects were nabbed while 18 violators were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.

In its anti-illegal drug campaign involving 91 operations, the PRO-6 seized around 1,655 grams of suspected shabu valued at P11.2 million.

The Negros Occidental police recorded 47 arrests, the highest among the units.

Iloilo City followed with 20 arrests, Iloilo province with 19, Bacolod City with 15, Aklan with six, Capiz with four, and Antique and Guimaras with one arrest each.

The most significant drug haul in the weeklong operations was recorded in Iloilo Province, where P2.8 million worth of suspected shabu was recovered in a single operation.

The arrest took place on Jan. 11, 2025, in Barangay Santiago, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, targeting a suspect known as alias Totong.
