Priscilla Meirelles shared about her weight loss journey and her experience with endometriosis during her guesting on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" Friday.
The Miss Earth 2004 told Tito Boy that she had to go through many things in the past two years, including dealing with endometriosis.
"One of the realizations that came to me was that kailangan ko talaga na bumalik sa dating ako, ang Priscilla, kasi through the process andami nangyari including a health condition that I had that was endometriosis," she said.
According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis happens when tissue "similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus." Like the uterine tissue, it thickens and bleeds and can cause pain during menstruation. Cysts called endometriomas can form when the condition affects the ovaries.
Its symptoms include painful periods, pain during or after sex, pain with bowel movements or urination, excessive bleeding, and infertility, among others.
Due to this condition, Priscilla had to have surgery to remove a cyst from her abdominal area. This experience taught her a lot of things, such as what's good and bad for her body, what causes inflammation, and what messes with her hormones, which all informed her to make better decisions about her health.
"I decided that [tatanggalin] ko lahat ng mga pagkain na hindi maganda sa katawan ko," she said, noting that she removed processed sugar from her diet completely.
She still eats carbs, but only from root crops like potato, sweet potato, and cassava. She also does not consume dairy anymore.
"When I had my problem, the cyst, dairy and sugar they trigger the issue so I've decided to take out also lahat ng mga dairy because it causes inflammation sa katawan ng isang babae."
Aside from changing up her diet, Priscilla also went back to working out.
She said she couldn't exercise for the last almost five years due to her condition, but she made it her priority to go back to her workout routine, which includes weightlifting.
In the past seven months, she proudly shared that she has lost 45 pounds, noting that this number is her limit.
During her guesting, Priscilla also clarified her relationship status with husband John Estrada, telling Tito Boy, "Legally, we're still married."
She assured that she is currently at peace, happy, and having a great time now that she can focus on herself.
“I’m investing time on myself health-wise, you know, physical health, mental health. I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter, and whatever happens in terms of what is my status right now, all I can say is that technically, I’m still married,” she said.
She added that her happiness and peace of mind are important to her and that she has gone back to loving herself.
"I went back to loving myself, which was lost for many years. And I’m not blaming anyone, it’s basically my fault that I got to a point where I was not loving myself anymore. So today, I can say that, oh my gosh, I have so much love because I love myself first. Of course, God, me, and then I have so much love to share.”
