MANILA, Philippines — Pope Leo XIV has appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and San Pablo Bishop Marcelino Maralit as members of the Vatican’s communication arm.

According to a statement by the Holy See’s press office on April 9 (Manila time), Tagle and Maralit have been appointed to the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.

The pontiff also appointed Filipino Archbishop Ryan Jimenez, who is the prelate of Agaña, Guam.

The Dicastery for Communication is the Holy See’s central office responsible for overseeing Vatican media, press relations and digital communications operations.

Tagle is the current pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Section for First Evangelization and the New Particular Churches.

Meanwhile, aside from being the prelate of San Pablo, Maralit is the president of the Office of Social Communications of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences.

This would be the eighth dicastery where Tagle is a member. Other dicasteries, aside from the Dicastery for Evangelization, are:

• Dicastery for the Eastern Churches
• Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life
• Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments
• Dicastery for Legislative Texts
• Dicastery for Inter-religious Dialogue
• Dicastery for Culture and Education
• Dicastery for Evangelization – Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelization in the World

Meanwhile, aside from Maralit and Tagle, the following are also appointed as members of the Dicastery for Communication:

• Cardinal Cristóbal López Romero – Archbishop of Rabat, Morocco

• Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça – Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education
• Salvatore Fisichella – Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelization in the World)
• Bishop Bernardin Francis Mfumbasa – Bishop of Kondoa, President of the Pan African Episcopal Committee for Communications
