MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police is set to receive this month P800 million worth of body-worn cameras to boost the PNP’s operational response under the Unified 911 emergency response system.

PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. recently sent high-ranking police officers to London in the United Kingdom and checked on the status of around 17,000 body cameras bought from a manufacturing company.

“It will be used for our Unified 911 and our effort for emergency response and other police responses,” Nartatez said.

Launched in September 2025, the 911 emergency hotline has become the public’s platform in seeking immediate response during emergencies.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla earlier said the Unified 911 system is meant for every Filipino, especially those who have no other way to access emergency response.

He urged the public to protect the system by not resorting to prank calls which could delay response in actual emergencies and put people’s lives at risk.
