CAMP ALEJO SANTOS, Bulacan , Philippines – The gun recovered from suspected gunman Monjeanne Julian Salamat is the same weapon used to kill S/Sgt. Renato Casauay Jr. in January, the Philippine National Police said.
Col. Angel Garcillano, Bulacan police director, said the cross-matching done by the Bulacan Provincial Crime Laboratory Office on the firearm showed that it was the same gun used in the murder.
Salamat was arrested during a follow-up operation by members of the Bulacan and Davao police forces at a transportation hub in Barangay Magugpo West on Feb. 4.
He is the primary suspect in the murder of Casauay, a member of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group’s Special Operations Unit 3, on Jan. 24.
The policeman’s body was recovered from a septic tank in Felicisima Village in Barangay Mojon, Malolos City on Jan. 31.
Seven other suspects are now in police custody.
