MANILA, Philippines — A Japanese firm is planning to invest $200 million to manufacture Pokémon toys in the Clark Freeport Zone.
Clark Development Corp. (CDC) president and CEO Agnes Devanadera told reporters yesterday that a Japanese firm is looking to invest around $200 million for a facility in Clark to manufacture Pokémon plushies or soft, stuffed toys.
She said the agreement for the project is expected to be signed this month. “This will generate 6,000 in employment,” Devanadera said.
The company will be exporting the manufactured plushies, but also sell some of the products in the local market.
The manufacturing project forms part of over 30 key investment projects and expansions in the Clark Freeport Zone in the pipeline.
Last month, CDC signed a lease agreement with Korean property developer Ozoo Development Corp. for a 200-hectare integrated mixed-use development.
The lease involves the P4-billion development of a golf resort, with hotel and villa components.
The project is expected to support tourism, leisure and long-term investment within the Clark Freeport Zone.
Once completed, the project is projected to create 120 direct jobs and 450 indirect jobs.
Clark Freeport Zone is designed as an integrated hub for aviation, industry, tourism and logistics,
At present, Clark Freeport Zone hosts 1,256 registered locators and 151,540 employees.
