PAGBILAO, Quezon , Philippines — An elderly woman died after a train of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) collided with a wooden motorized trolley in this town on Tuesday afternoon.

The fatality was a passenger of the trolley, which was traveling along a curved portion of the railroad in Barangay Pinagbayanan at around 2 p.m.

The Pagbilao police said visibility was poor in the area due to thick vegetation.

Probers said it was too late for the train operator to prevent the collision as the trolley suddenly appeared from a blind curve.

The vegetation reportedly obstructed the line of sight of the trolley operator.

The impact caused the victim to fall off the trolley and be pinned down under the train. She was declared dead on arrival at the Quezon Medical Center. The trolley operator was not harmed.

The PNR committed to extend financial assistance to the victim’s family.
