MANILA, Philippines — Police are pursuing good leads on the two men who killed long-time billiards patron and businessman Ceferino Mariano and his driver in Quezon City, the Philippine National Police said yesterday.

PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is tracking down the suspects who shot to death the 75-year-old Mariano and his driver Norberto Orimaco at the corner of Timog Avenue and EDSA in Barangay South Triangle on Tuesday afternoon.

“The leads are good,” Tuaño said during a news briefing at Camp Crame.

Tuaño did not give other details so as not to jeopardize the QCPD manhunt operations, but sources said police have obtained information on the area where the suspects may be hiding.

Kamuning police station commander Lt. Col. Zachary Capellan earlier said the ambush on Mariano could be business-related.

Capellan said they are coordinating with Mariano’s family for information on whether the businessman had received threats to his security before he was killed.
