COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Police and military units have intensified their search for two men who killed a Lebanese and his Filipina wife in Zamboanga City on Friday.
Brig. Gen. Edwin Quilates, Zamboanga Peninsula police chief, said the Western Mindanao Command under Lt. Gen. Donald Gumiran is assisting the teams in hunting down the suspects.
Quilates said the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region police and government units are guarding seaports to prevent the escape of the two men to Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
Yesterday, Zamboanga Mayor Khymer Olaso offered a P500,000 reward to anyone who could provide information that could help authorities track and arrest the suspects.
The images of the two unidentified men were captured on closed-circuit TV cameras and circulated on social media sites.
Footage showed the men entering the printing shop and electronic pay center that Fahed Hamdan and his wife Annora owned and operated along Pilar Street in Zamboanga.
It showed the two shooting the couple and carting away an unspecified amount of money.
Annora died at the scene while Fahed, who scuffled with the robbers, died in a hospital.
According to radio reports here yesterday, Basilan Gov. Mujiv Hataman and Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay have ordered law enforcers to keep a tight watch on seaports to make sure the suspects would not be able to enter their communities.
Hataman and Furigay have deployed civil security personnel to help intelligence operatives in guarding the ports.
“This is just a security measure. It is unlikely for the suspects to hide in Basilan, but we are not taking chances,” Furigay said.
