Reina Hispanoamericana, formerly known as Reina Sudamericana, began in 1991 with only 10 South American countries competing for the title. In 2004, the pageant gradually began inviting representatives from other countries with Spanish influences. The Philippines first joined in 2017 and became the first Asian country to take home the crown.
