MANILA, Philippines —  The Quezon City government is considering a permanent in-city relocation for the thousands of families left homeless in a massive fire along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan last week.

In a statement yesterday, the local government said it is coordinating with the National Housing Authority and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development to provide homes for the victims.

Over the weekend, Mayor Joy Belmonte visited the site affected by the fire to encourage the residents to stay in evacuation centers.

Some 4,000 families were reportedly displaced by the fire that reached Task Force Bravo.

Up to 1,926 families composed of 6,020 people are staying in seven evacuation sites, city hall said.

Belmonte also joined Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager Nicolas Torre III and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office general manager Mel Robles in the distribution of food packs and modular tents for the victims.

In addition to relief packs, city hall also deployed social and health workers to provide services to the displaced residents.
