MANILA, Philippines — Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) recently held their simple celebration ushering in the holiday season through the annual lighting of the “Wish-mas Tree” at the Mandaluyong City Jail.
The tradition was even boosted by a partnership between the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and a major international food distributor.
During the ceremony, visitors and partners were invited to pick wishes written PDLs. Fresh Valley Corporation said it donated rice products to make the occasion extra-special.

The company said the gesture “symbolizes comfort, dignity, and the reassurance that the world outside continues to care.”
“Christmas is a season of warmth and humanity, and we believe every person deserves to be seen, valued, and hopeful,” said Lalaine Cayanan, product manager of Fresh Valley.
Fresh Valley said the act is part of its broader mission to nourish lives not only through quality food products, but also through genuine community support.
