ILOILO CITY — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said almost 96.5 percent of barangays in Western Visayas region have been cleared of illegal drugs.

Data showed that 1,963 out of the 3,389 barangays have been declared drug-free.

PDEA-6 Regional Director Ralph Rommel Torres said that 119 barangays or 3.51 percent are still undergoing deliberation.

Barangays in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, and Guimaras are 100 percent drug-cleared.

The province of Iloilo attained a rating of 99.59 percent but six barangays are still drug-affected.

The province of Capiz has a 93.45 percent rating with 30 barangays still identified as drug-affected.

The regional capital Iloilo City still has the highest number of drug-affected barangays with 83.

Torres ordered the revalidation of drug-cleared barangays in Western Visayas after identified drug personalities reemerged in 11 barangays.

These barangays have two months to act. Non-compliance will prompt PDEA to reclassify them as drug-affected.
