THE Cebu City government recognized the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Central Visayas (PDEA-7) for its outstanding effort in uncovering P170 million worth of shabu during an operation at Pier 4 on Jan. 23, 2025.

Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia in a ceremony held on Monday lauded success of the operation, which led to the seizure of 25 kilos of illegal drugs hidden inside a red sedan aboard a roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) vessel from Masbate.

Garcia particularly acknowledged the role of K-9 dog named "Bayani" which detected the contraband.

The operation also led to the arrest of a 41-year-old truck driver and his 63-year-old mother for their involvement in smuggling the drugs.

The bust, which involved agencies like the Naval Forces Central, PRO-7's Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, PNP Maritime Group, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Cebu Port Authority Police, and the Bureau of Customs, was hailed for its precision and coordination.

Meanwhile, later that day, newly appointed PRO-7 director BGen. Redrico Maranan credited the intelligence-gathering and strong inter-agency partnerships for the success.

Garcia reaffirmed the city's commitment to supporting such operations, promising ongoing financial and logistical aid to bolster anti-drug efforts in Cebu City.
