MANILA, Philippines — A Philippine Coast Guard station commander was shot and killed while inside his vehicle in Ipil town in Zamboanga Sibugay on Wednesday, January 15.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Glennick Ytang, 32, was attacked by an unidentified gunman in Barangay Veterans Village, the PCG said in a statement Friday, January 16.
Ytang, who commanded Coast Guard Station Zamboanga Sibugay under Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao, was shot multiple times and died from his injuries, according to the initial investigation.
The officer was a member of Coast Guard Officers' Course Class 26-2020 "Hiraya Masiklab."
The PCG said it is coordinating with the Philippine National Police to investigate the killing.
"The investigation of the PCG is still ongoing," PCG spokesperson Noemi Cayabyab said.
Authorities have not identified a suspect or determined a motive for the attack.
