Three construction workers died in a landslide that occurred at a construction site along the boundary of Silang and Tagaytay in Cavite amid torrential rains brought by Tropical Storm “Emong” and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat).
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said it recovered the bodies of the three fatalities during search, rescue and retrieval operations at the ground zero in Barangay Iruhin West, Tagaytay City on Friday, July 25.
They were identified by the police only through their aliases “Jose”, “Nonong”, and “Mark”, who were residents in the same village.
“Sa pamamagitan ng positibong senyales ng mga Coast Guard K9 working dogs, matagumpay na narekober ang tatlong katawan ngayon araw, ika-25 ng Hulyo 2025 sa tulong ng Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), at Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) (Through the positive indications of the Coast Guard K9 working dogs, three bodies were successfully recovered today, July 25, 2025, with the assistance of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office),” the PCG said in an advisory Friday night.
The PCG said it dispatched SRR teams from its Coast Guard K9 Force along with working dogs “Naga”, “Optimus”, and Itogon” when the landslide struck the construction site on July 24.
According to the initial investigation, four construction workers were resting inside their barracks when a perimeter wall suddenly collapsed due to the landslide triggered by continuous rainfall. The perimeter wall was erected in Barangay Cabangaan, Silang which separates the town from Tagaytay City.
One of the laborers was rescued on Thursday while three others did not make it alive after being buried in a pile of soil.
Authorities conducted further investigation to determine the structural integrity of the construction site.
