MANILA, Philippines—Jerom Lastimosa drew praise for his shooting after Magnolia lost to Meralco in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinals matchup on Saturday night at Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Lastimosa put up a spirited effort, showing why he’s one of the fast-rising stars in the league. The Hotshots, however, still came up short in overtime, 102-105.
“Sky’s the limit for him,” said guard Chris Newsome, who helped the Bolts reach the semifinals against the TNT Tropang 5G.
“He shows that he’s capable of doing things in crunch time. It’s commendable for him and you have to give him credit for that.”

Lastimosa had an efficient night, going 9-of-14 from the field for 28 points, matching the output of Meralco import Marvin Jones.
Newsome, who finished with 18 points and five assists, wasn’t surprised by Lastimosa’s performance.
After all, he’s seen the potential since way back in 2023 when they shared the floor for Gilas Pilipinas in the Cambodia SEA Games.
“He was part of the SEA games team before and we were teammates,” he said of the shifty guard, who also registered four rebounds and two assists.
“I knew from that moment and when he was in Adamson that he was going to be a tough kid in t he league and he’s proving that every night out.”
