RODRIGUEZ, Rizal—Kentrell Barkley made quite a splash in his first game as the Blackwater import in the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup.

The chunk of Barkley’s 29 points in the Bossing’s 131-108 win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came in the first quarter when he unloaded a number of threes that set the tone for the convincing rout at Ynares Center Montalban here.

Barkley dropped 18 in the opening period highlighted by a perfect 4-of-4 clip from the three-point region.

“I was just being aggressive and trusting Coach Pat [Aquino’s] gameplan,” Barkley said. “I feel like if I’m aggressive on the court, I give my team the best chances of winning.

“I got a little tired in the second quarter, but I found other ways to impact the game without scoring,” added Barkley.

He also had 15 rebounds and 10 assists to complete his impressive PBA debut with a triple-double.

The 29-year-old Barkley, a 6-foot-5 southpaw, was tapped by Blackwater after a professional career that includes a short NBA G League run in 2018 and stints in Asia.

His notable stops were with Taiwan Beer in Taiwan, Singapore Slingers in the Asean Basketball League, Saigon Heat in Vietnam and Kesatria Bengawan Solo in Indonesia.

The opening act gave Blackwater some semblance of promise in the season-ending conference, but Barkley believes there’s more work to be done.
