ANTIPOLO—John Amores made his PBA return on Friday with Titan Ultra after putting his professional career in limbo when he figured in a shooting incident two years ago.
And Amores, who had five points and two rebounds in the Giant Risers’ 113-100 loss to the Terrafirma Dyip here, vowed to not waste this latest opportunity.
“I’m just going to do what the team needs me to do and nothing else,” Amores said.
Amores returned to action after his professional license was reinstated by the Games and Amusements Board following the incident that took place while playing a pickup game in his hometown of Lumban, Laguna.
Titan Ultra, which absorbed Amores’ rights from NorthPort, signed the ex-Jose Rizal University standout to a one-conference deal.
For Amores, his return didn’t come without a lengthy process, saying that he had sought psychiatric help, participated in outreach programs and GAB seminars, and also sought spiritual guidance from pastors he consulted.
“I didn’t get my GAB license back on a silver platter. I really worked hard to get it back,” he said.
Now back in the league, Amores said he intends to make the most of the opportunity to redeem himself.
“It was a big lesson for me because I thought I would no longer return to the PBA, I would no longer get my license back,” he said.
